Investcorp Acquires 20Cube 3PL Solutions in Strategic India Expansion

Global alternative investment firm Investcorp has finally acquired a major contract logistics firm in digital-first India, 20Cube 3PL Solutions, for roughly ₹500 crore. The deal reflects Investcorp’s growing presence in the industrial category in India and shows a significant step towards bringing the third-party logistics industry together in India.

According to Business Standard, the deal involves a corporate carve-out of 20Cube Logistics, which is based in Singapore, by the Indian-speaking logistics service. The Indian entity will be based on the Investcorp banner and will be separate from the parent company’s operations with regards to international freight forwarding business. Investcorp has signed an in-principle deal with the original founding team working at 20Cube, which includes Indian-born Anand Seetharaman and Ranjan Kedia. Apart from that, Investcorp and 20Cube have pulled ₹500 crore to ₹750 crore of additional investment towards future bolt-on acquisitions that could help 20Cube take over logistics assets of complementing players across the country’s supply chain.

The Indian entity is now managing more than 7 million square feet of Grade A warehousing in the key manufacturing hubs in India, according to Rediff Money. It is used by medium-to-large enterprise customers in the consumer durables, automotive components, chemicals and industrial engineering sectors. With the new ownership structure, 20Cube plans to expand its total physical footprint to exceed 20 million sq.ft. in four to five years in the wake of a rapidly growing demand in post-manufacturing.

BW Hotelier pointed out the impact of the market on Investcorp’s investment strategy that is focused on India’s current “Make in India” initiatives, which is leading to the widespread adoption of Multi-client warehousing and integration of the Supply chain. This latest investment comes after Investcorp already had significant investments in NDR Warehousing and engineering consultancy firm Miebach Consulting, expanding its portfolio to logistics-related businesses in India.
