GST Raids Six Warehouses of Speed Cargo Transport in Aligarh, Seizes ₹50 Lakh Goods
A special team from the State Tax Department’s Special Investigation Branch (SIB) conducted coordinated raids at six branches of Speed Cargo Transport in Aligarh late Thursday, seizing goods valued at approximately ₹50 lakh over alleged GST violations.
At the directions of Additional Commissioner Grade-1 Dr. Anupama Goel, the operation was initiated at 7 pm and went on until about 3 00 am. Officials of SIB under JC Reenu Kumari conducted raids in several places of Delhi Gate, Hodgodam Kamela Road, Sarai Sultani Charakwalan, Upper Kot, Turkman Gate and the Double Water Tank area.
Authorities detected trucks loaded with goods of all kinds like locks, hardware fittings, brassware, electronic goods and others being ferried by using fabricated, invalid or nonexistent GST bills. These loads were reportedly destined to such sites as Kolkata, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu.
Tax evaders will not go scot free. All business affairs should totally follow the GST rules, here Dr. Goel cautioned and said that there were serious abnormalities which have been unearthed and investigation is going on.
A formal notice was served to the transport operator, Mr. Md. Khalid after the raids by the officials pointing him as the person involved in the violations. The action was monitored by senior SIB officials, DC SIB Neeraj Prakash, DC Administration Chandrashekhar, DC SIB Mathura Pratima Shukla, AC SIB Shiv Kumar Singh and AC Dr. Abhishek Singh amongst others.
The sting operation is among the increased and enhanced enforcement by tax authorities on GST evasion by the logistics industries. The raids were occasioned by earlier inspections that were made by mobile teams and citizens complaints.
What It Implies on the Industry?
- Crackdown on compliance: The raids are an illustration of a high-enforcement GST which is supposed to prevent the abuse of transport logistics by using false documents.
- Greater implication: The increased investigation of other transport operators that ferry freight and cargo is likely to have the same scrutiny as officials up the ante in critical transport routes.
Next Steps?
- SIB investigators will conduct a forensic audit of Speed Cargo Transport’s GST records and dispatch protocols.
- Based on the findings, officials may recommend financial penalties or pursue criminal prosecutions for tax evasion.
This raid is an indication about the increased alertness of officials to fraudte in documents in the freight industry in India and its message to the operators is simple; follow tax norms or suffer.
