AC cabins for trucks from October 1st 2025 – will that Possible – Challenges and Benefits

In India, the months from February to October are very hot. Due to which it is difficult to do any work in this weather. In view of this difficulty, the Government of India has given such a gift to the truck driver that now the happiness of the truck driver will know no bounds.

The Government of India has announced from October 1, 2025 that all the trucks that will be made now will also have AC cabins, that is, now the truck drivers will not be bored of sweat during long journeys, this will reduce the chances of accidents. The Government of India has taken this step because due to excessive heat, many times truck drivers start facing the problem of dehydration and vomiting.

 Understanding the AC cabin mandate

Last year in 2024, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had said that companies will have to make AC cabins in all types of

medium and heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses. Nitin Gadkari also said that this rule will come into effect from October 1, 2025. AC manufacturing companies will have to make it following the rules of IS14618:2022, as a result of which the safety of the driver can be ensured.

What will be the benefits of AC cabins for trucks?

(1) Driver will get comfort

  • According to a report of All India Transporter Association 2023, out of 100 truck drivers, 20 truck drivers are troubled by heat, but after the installation of AC cabins in these trucks, they will no longer have to bear the heat because when the cabin is arranged in the trucks, they will be able to install AC as per their wish and will be able to work happily.

 (2) India’s GDP will benefit

  • When AC cabins will be installed in trucks from 1 October 2025, one of its biggest benefits will be that India’s GDP will also increase because according to a study by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the possibility of accidents increases due to fatigue of truck drivers. As a result, India’s economy suffers a loss of Rs 50000 crore.

(3) Driver productivity will increase

  • When AC cabins are installed in trucks, one of its biggest benefits will be that it will increase the productivity of the driver. Earlier, drivers used to take rest due to heat and their rest caused hindrance in the supply of goods, but after the AC cabin is installed, they will not take rest and they will be able to supply the goods on time.

Challenges in installing AC cabins in trucks

(1) Truck owner’s expenses will increase

  • The biggest challenge in installing AC cabins in trucks is that the truck owner’s expenses will increase due to which he will avoid installing AC cabins in the truck because installing an AC cabin in a truck will cost a minimum of ₹20000 to ₹40000 and in such a situation, owners of small trucks will avoid installing AC cabins.

(2) Fuel consumption will increase

  • Earlier, the truck used to give an average of 20 kilometers in 1 liter of fuel. Now, after installing the AC cabin, it is giving an average of only 15 kilometers in 1 liter. In such a situation, truck owners will not install AC cabins because they will incur losses and no truck owner can afford losses in business.

 (3) Problem in maintenance

  • When AC cabins are installed in trucks from 1 October 2025, the AC cabins require periodic servicing, which increases the expenses of truck owners because servicing of AC once costs at least a thousand rupees.

Industry response and future outlook

Truck manufacturing companies like Volvo and Scania are already providing AC cabins in their trucks. But the problem is that other small and big companies will avoid installing AC cabins, so the government should first give subsidy for installing AC cables to increase awareness among truck companies and motivate them. This subsidy should be given till all truck companies install an AC cabin in their trucks because Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s dream is that every person’s life

should be happy and he should not face any problem, so when he works, he should work wholeheartedly so that productivity per unit also increases.

 Conclusion

The work of installing AC in trucks will start from 1 October 2025, but the government has to prepare in advance for the challenges that will come in it so that they can be resolved on time and if needed, they can also be given subsidy so that it can encourage as much as possible that truck owners or truck companies can install AC cabins in their trucks.
